If you regularly view EPUB files on Windows or Mac and don’t want to convert them, you can also download Adobe Digital Editions for free from the Adobe website. One of the quickest ways to convert a large EPUB file to PDF is by using Zamzar. With the three-step online conversion tool, you just need to upload your file, click to convert it to PDF, and then download the converted file.
The free version of Zamzar’s online file converter allows file sizes that should mean you can convert even a large EPUB file. Sumatra PDF works with EPUB and MOBI eBooks as well as PDFs, XPS files, and even comic books in CBZ and CBR formats, Sumatra can even be used in “portable” mode, so you can place it on a USB drive or in a cloud storage folder and run it on computers without installing it first. 
If you prefer reading EPUB files in your browser, you might want to try a browser extension. Install EPUBReader from the Chrome Web Store, and EPUB files will open like PDFs directly in your browser when you click them on the web. You can open EPUB files from your computer in your browser, too, just like you can use your browser as your PDF reader, 
The new Microsoft Edge is based on Google Chrome, so you could also install EPUBReader in Edge. There’s a way to install extensions from the Chrome Web Store in Microsoft Edge, Over time, more extensions should appear on the Microsoft Edge Addons website, making this trick less necessary. How do I add EPUB to Chrome?
Today we have debuted a brand new ePub Reader for Read&Write for Google Chrome. The new ePub Reader provides even more ways to access, read and interact with ePubs whether you are using Google Workspace or Office 365. For those unfamiliar, “ePub” is short for electronic publication and is an e-book standard used by publishers across the globe.
- Many books purchased or accessed online come in an ePub format, and Read&Write provides a seamless way to view them with the support of literacy tools to help with reading and comprehension.
- If you’ve been using Read&Write for Google Chrome, you may already be familiar with how to open an ePub book in your Google Drive with Read&Write.
Today you’ll start seeing a new and improved ePub experience including the same Read&Write toolbar you’re accustomed to seeing in Docs, Slides and PDFs. Just right-click on an ePub in your Drive, and choose “Open with Read&Write for Google Chrome” to check it out.
- But that’s not all! The new ePub Reader is also an app that can open local ePubs from your computer or Chromebook.
- So if you’ve got ePubs saved on your device, you can now read those with Read&Write too.
- And for Office 365 users, this adds ePub support to your Read&Write experience as well – just download your ePub from OneDrive first, or make sure you can access your OneDrive through File Explorer.
To open an ePub from your device, just go to epub.texthelp.com and follow the prompts to install the ePub Reader app. For Windows and Mac users, this will add the Texthelp ePub Reader to your desktop. And for Chrome users, this installs it as an app in Chrome.

Is it better to read EPUB or PDF?
When Should I Use EPUB? – You should use EPUB as your primary choice whenever you want to publish an eBook. Virtually all publishers accept EPUB eBooks, and they’re very author-friendly and reader-friendly. Even Amazon accepts EPUB eBooks. However, they immediately convert them to their own file format: AZW3 or KPF (the newest versions of the file format previously known as MOBI).
- This may mess with your eBook’s formatting.
- Most of the time, this doesn’t happen, but that’s why it’s important to review formatting when you upload your book to KDP.
- If you’re publishing with Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing, use Kindle Create to make your eBook into a KPF so you can ensure your eBook looks exactly like you want it on a Kindle device.
You can also sideload EPUB books onto your Kindle, which is great for delivering free reader magnets to your readers, or to deliver ARC copies.
