How to restore files in Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office – To recover files and folders:
- Start Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office and click Backup on the sidebar
- From the backup list, select the backup which contains the files or folders that you want to recover:
- On the right panel, click Recovery :
- Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office will display possible recovery modes for this backup. Depending on type of backup, possible recovery modes are: Entire PC, Disks, Partitions, Files, Select Files
- The program will display the data inside the backup. If necessary, select backup version (data state on specific date and time). By default the latest backup version is selected:
- Navigate the panel on the left and select the files and folders that you want to recover in the panel on the right. After selecting the necessary data, then click Next :
- Select a destination on your computer to where you want to recover selected files/folders.
- You can recover data to its original location, as selected by default
- Or choose a new location, if necessary. To choose a new location, click the Browse button:
- When needed, set the options for the recovery process (recovery process priority, file-level security settings, etc.). To set the options, click Recovery options, The options you set here will be applied only to the current recovery operation. You can learn more about recovery options in product documentation
- To start the recovery process, click the Recover now button. You can stop the recovery by clicking Cancel. Please keep in mind that the aborted recovery may still cause changes in the destination folder.

Recovering data – Perform the following steps to create a backup plan for a device:
Log into the Acronis portal using your login username, and click the Continue button. Enter you password and click the Sign In button. Click Backup & Disaster Recovery to open the dashboard. In the Acronis dashboard, click the machine for which you want to recover the data, and click the Recover option. From the list of backup dates, select the date that you want to recover the data from, and click the Recover button. Based on what you want to recover, select either Entire machine or Files/folders, The software automatically maps the disks from the backup to the disks of the target machine. You can select the recovery machine (physical or virtual), the target machine to which it needs to be recovered, and the disk mapping. Click the Start Recovery button. To modify the recovery options, click the Recovery options button when configuring recovery.

- Thanks Yana! You may want to read MS article Deploy a Virtual Hard Disk for Native Boot for a surprise discovery that VHD drives with Win7 guest on them are attachable in Win7 host, and bootable in several ways on a physical PC.
- Further, one can boot inside any VM from its virtual drive with OS installed, including VHD drives.
Yet, Acronis tib virtual drives are not bootable on a physical PC, for one reason, in contrast with VHD drives TIB can’t be attached automatically after reboot (even so you have such “Try to boot” feature in Acronis Home package). Further, in contrast with VHD drives, its not bootable even inside a VM after being mounted on the host and attached to that VM.
- And it remains unbootable inside the VM even after “OS image generalization” to remove traces of host hardware, or when its content is erased completely and a new OS installed on it inside the VM.
- Hence, there is a definite issue with mounted TIB drives that needs to be addressed.
- My particulars are irrelevant here, since I didn’t say the tib archive won’t boot after being restored to a different physical hard drive.
What I say, you can’t boot from a mounted tib drive – neither host, no guest OS. But you can boot from VHD drives – yet not from those converted from tib to VHD by Acronis. 🙂 You may want to try boot from your own bootable partition tib to see the same deficiencies. The thing is, backup converted to VHD must, ought and should be bootable. Thus, in case you cannot boot from it after conversion, there’s obviously some issue occurred, which needs to be fixed as soon as possible. Acronis products allow to Clone disks, and Copy & Transfer disks and partitions. A physical disk may have several bootable partitions on it. When a partition copied by Acronis, it looses its bootable status, even if then marked Active.
Only cloned disks remain bootable: the original disk can be marked Passive, and the new one Active to boot on the same PC, if its OS updated to a new NT sig. When it comes to backing up partitions and attaching their tib volumes, a user also often needs to backup just one bootable partition, then mount the tib and boot from it.
An attached tib gets its own NT sig. Furthering discussion, Acronis products should allow to backup not only disks, but also partitions such a way that they remain bootable, when tib is attached to the host or added to a VM. One can mark such tib Active and current system partition Passive, and reboot from the tib on a physical machine or VM. Where are Acronis backups stored?
Last update: 01-05-2020 Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud supports a variety of storage devices. You can select these destinations to store your backups:
- Cloud storage Backups will be stored in the cloud data center. Map of Acronis data centers,
- Local folders Backups will be stored on an internal or external drive.
- Network folder This is a folder shared via SMB/CIFS. For example, it can be a share on a NAS device or on another computer.
- NFS folder Available for machines running Linux or OS X.
- Secure Zone Secure Zone is a secure partition on a disk of the backed-up machine. This partition has to be created manually prior to configuring a backup. For information about how to create Secure Zone, its advantages and limitations, refer to About Secure Zone,
- Defined by a script (advanced storage option) Available for machines running Windows. Each machine’s backups will be stored in a folder defined by a script. When deploying the backup plan, the software runs the script on each machine. The script output for each machine should be a local or network folder path.
Backup destination is selected in every backup plan. By default, cloud storage is selected. To select another destination:
- Click the Where to back up field:
- Click to select one of the options, and then click Browse or provide the path to the location:
You can define up to 5 additional locations. In this case, each backup will be copied to a secondary location immediately after creation. This feature is called Backup Replication. Replication is useful, when:
- you want to store your backups both on-site (for immediate recovery) and off-site (to secure the backups from local storage failure or a natural disaster)
- you want to use the cloud storage to protect data from a natural disaster
- you want to sparingly use space available in the first storage (for each storage, you can set up individual rules to delete older backups)

After your backup has finished, Windows displays the total size and the date and time of the backup.

Can you recover files after re Imaging?
Drickka First off, you need to understand that there is no guaranteed way to get the files back. If you have written to the drive since you reimaged it, there is every likelyhood that you have overwritten some or all of the files and if that has happened, there is no possible way to retrieve them.
What MIGHT work is using data recovery apps. These can scan the drive for files and folders, and if found, offer you the chance to retrieve them.
